CAU x MakerCube: Kick-off for the validation fund

The validation fund of Kiel University supports potential transfer and start-up projects from Kiel University with up to €20,000 in a simple application process.

The aim is to make research results “ready” for monetary or non-monetary utilization or application more quickly in the future.

To this end, the fund serves as an early funding instrument that should also enable projects to qualify for further funding programs such as GO-Bio Initial, VIP+ or EXIST Research Transfer.

The associated kick-off recently took place in hybrid form at our FabLab with over fifty participants from science, research and transfer. After a welcome by Jan Graw and Friedericke Bönisch, Axel Koch, Head of the Transfer Division, introduced the audience to the validation fund, the associated goals of the CAU and possible validation activities such as prototype development in FabLab Kiel.

Following on from this, Volker Breust from the MakerCube team demonstrated the versatile possibilities of our high-tech prototyping and the associated individual consulting and support services.

Finally, Prof. Sabine Fuchs (Head of Experimental Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery, UKSH), Melvin Wostry (PhD student in Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy, CAU) and Ties Junge (Managing Director of the start-up Silolytics GmbH, funded by EXIST at the CAU) presented the latest prototyping and validation projects.
